Gorenja vas accepted to Best Tourism Village Upgrade Programme

Institution for tourism Poljanska dolina and Municipality Gorenja vas - Poljane applied in the middle of the year 2021 for the best example village Best Tourism Village by UNWTO. It was launched this year by the UNWTO.
UNWTO released the program Best Tourism Village to make a greater impact and give meaning to local collaboration and integration, and preserving natural and kultural inheritence, including local gastronomy.
The villages were evaluated by nine areas of critera:
- Cultural and Natural Resources
- Promotion and Consevration of Cultural Resources
- Economic Sustainability
- Social Sustainability
- Environmental Sustainability
- Tourismk Potential and Developmetn and Value Chain Integration
- Governance and Prioritization of Tourism
- Infrastructure and Connectivity
- Health, Safety and Security
For the 2021 pilot initative of Best Tourism Village applied 170 destinations from 75 countries. In Slovenia the recognized villages were Radovljica and Solčavsko.
Gorenja vas was recognized for the Upgrade Programme, where we will receive support from UNWTO and its Partners in improving elements of the areas identified as gaps in the evaluation process. With this we will be able to make an upgrade of our destination.
