One of the Slovenian pearls waiting to be discovered is definitely Poljanska valley. It is one of the most beautiful valleys and it is ideal for day trips or multi-day exploration, full of diversity with wonderful interweaving of natural beauties, culture, history and especially heartful people. Green landscape has already enchanted the writer Ivan Tavčar and the artistic family Šubic with its intactness and it will certainly enchant you as well. You will be able to feel the love to our land everywhere.

 

 

1. A romantic landscape will enchant you with its beauty and intactness

The Poljanska valley stretches along the 42-kilometer-long Poljanska Sora river basin, which is surrounded by three major hills: Škofja Loka hills, Polhov gradec hills and Idrija-Cerkno hills. The area is mostly covered by forests, meadows, and pastures. Because of the combination of these factors is the landscape very attractive and romantic in all seasons. It is ideal for you to come and escape to nature, where you can relax, enjoy the peace and get some fresh air.

2. Hit the road, 89 kilometers and more than 10 themed trails are waiting for you

The 89-kilometer-long municipal walking circle of the municipality of Gorenja vas - Poljane and more that 10 themed trails are a sufficient reason to take hiking shoes on the trip. Hiking trails are marked and perfectly suitable for individuals as well as for the whole family. Blegoš, Ermanovec and Slajka are just some of the peaks that offers a beautiful vantage point of the surrounding landscape.

3. If you prefer cycling, you have 115 km of cycling routes

In the Poljanska valley is also well taken care of cycling enthusiasts. The municipal cycling circle offers 115 kilometers of marked cycling routes with 3,400 meters of ascents and descents. The route can be traversed in one piece, but for recreational cyclists the route is also divided into 3 stages.

4. Where the love story Blossom in Autumn took place and Rupnik line was built

The natural beauties of the Poljanska valley are also widely recognized. Some of them are found on Natura 2000 list, others on the natura values list. Cultural heritage is also richly represented. Poljanska valley as a landscape along Poljanska Sora river is defined as a mosaic of cultural landscape with an exceptional landscape of sacral buildings and homesteads. Of all the sights, two stand out, the Visoko Manor, the former Tavčar homestead, and the Rupnik line, built to defend against Italian attacks.

Traditional customs and traditions are still an important part of the Poljanska valley. As an intangible heritage, the memory of ancestors and life in the past is preserved. The biggest events are Day of Charcoal Makers in Stari vrh and the Harvest Festival on Žirovski vrh.

6. All other sports enthusiasts are well taken care of

In addition to hiking and cycling, Poljanska valley offers many other forms of sports activities. Fishing in Poljanska Sora river, riding on the Fifi ranch, paragliding, or skiing on Stari vrh are just some of them. For those who prefer to encourage athletes, Lučine Mountain Speed Race and Poljane Hills Cup take place every year.
