On Wednesday, 17 June 2020, we had in municipality Gorenja vas - Poljane headquarters, conference with tourism providers regarding Green Scheme of Slovenian tourism with headline: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES OF SUSTAINALBE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF TOURIST PROVIREDRS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE MODELS IN THE DESTINATION OF GORENJA VAS - POLJANE.

The event was attended by the tourist economy, accommodation and food establishments, various associations, artisans, and craftsmen. The presentation of the Green Scheme was presented to the participants by Astrid Prašnikar from the Institute for Responsible Tourism; also, the director Ariana Suhadolnik from the Miren Kras Institute from the Municipality of Miren Kostanjevica was invited, where they won the Slovenia Green gold badge. She presented her example of good practice. In addition, we presented green signs to local providers at a special event. Tjaša Šter from Villa Vita Brda presented her good practice, as she obtained the sustainable Green Key label this year. One of the topics was also sustainable water use, sustainable wastewater management and waste in the tourism industry. It was presented at the municipality by Kristina Knific, the person responsible for water and waste. Dimitrij Piciga presented what tourism will look like in Slovenia this year. At the end, the acting director also presented tourism in our destination Gorenja vas - Poljane.

 

After the conclusion, the press conference with the signing ceremony of the Green Policy by Mayor Milan Čadež followed. Thus, as the main representative of the municipality, he committed himself to adopt and follow the ten sustainable principles, which strive for sustainable operation and continuous efforts for improvement. The Green Policy and the Code of Ethics in Tourism were also signed by the stakeholders of the Green Team, representatives of the accommodation and food establishments and tourist associations.

 

A green (environmentally and socially responsible) destination is not something that is a project, task or responsibility solely of tourist organisation. It is something we can only achieve together - all stakeholders in the destination, in the public, non-governmental and private sectors - not only in tourism, but in all areas of activity. Last but not least, all the inhabitants of the destination are also crucial in this process. It is extremely important that the destination is first and foremost pleasant and friendly for all who work and live here. This will also be the case for the people who visit us.
